5 THINGS: i contemporary usciti nel 2020 da recuperare

Ecco un nuovo appuntamento della nostra nuova rubrica inaugurata da Camilla qualche settimana fa.

In questo articolo andiamo a parlare quindi di 5 contemporary usciti quest'anno che, se non avete già letto, vi consiglio assolutamente di recuperare. 

Sono invece già finiti nei vostri scaffali? Bene!! Raccontatemi cosa ne pensate e qual è stato il vostro preferito! 

 CRUSHING IT di Lorelei Parker 

Trama:

Questo libro combina elementi piuttosto comuni ai contemporary romance e novità. Se volete essere catapultati nel mondo di una gamer questo sicuramente è il libro che fa per voi! I rimandi ai videogiochi sono presenti ma non pesanti. Ne capisci l'influenza nella mente della protagonista ma non sono così preponderanti da renderla cieca al resto. Allo stesso tempo è impossibile non venire trasportati nello stratificato mondo di Sierra: forte e determinata nel suo campo quanto pasticciona (o sfortunata) e ansiosa in terreni su cui si sente decisamente meno sicura. L'idea del contest ci accompagnerà in questo piccolo viaggio in una migliore comprensione di noi stessi, pro e contro, facendoci fare nel mentre un sacco di risate. Ho amato tutti i personaggi e devo dire che il romance mi ha ben soddisfatta. Insomma ragazzi, ottima lettura leggera da portare con voi sotto la coperta!

 

YOU DESERVE EACH OTHER di Sarah Hogle

Trama:

Ho letteralmente AMATO questo libro. E' uno di quei libri che non puoi comprendere a fondo dalla lettura della copertina. Mi aspettavo sicuramente di farmi quattro risate ma certo non mi aspettavo di avere grandi spunti di riflessione e forse di trovare anche un pò di me stessa in quelle pagine. Prima di tutto lo premetto: Naomi non è una protagonista facile da amare. E' piena di difetti, spesso irritante e vi accorgerete nel leggere che molte volte non vede al di là del proprio naso. Nicholas all'inizio non è da meno: sembra un fastidioso perfettino con la puzza sotto al naso che vuole solo lasciare a Naomi la patata bollente e uscirne come la vittima. Invece, c'è molto di più. Il punto di vista della protagonista ci permette di disvelare la verità pezzo per pezzo, piangendo e ridendo in una montagna russa di emozioni che mi ha davvero scaldato il cuore. Forse il finale è un pò veloce e io sicuramente avrei voluto avere uno scorcio più ampio del dopo, ma devo dire che rimane una delle migliori letture di quest'anno.

BEACH READ di Emily Henry

Questo libro mi ha stregata. Un'altra storia che all'apparenza potrebbe sembrare più comica e ironica che altro ma che in realtà affronta diverse tematiche, anche piuttosto pesanti, sia per quanto riguarda le relazioni personali (separazioni e tradimenti extraconiugali), sia per quanto riguarda le esperienze devastanti di persone che vengono trascinate nel mondo tossico delle sette. Due autori, due mondi completamente diversi, due modi di scrivere che portano una a creare contemporary dal lieto fino e l'altro storie cupe, dal finale tragico. Scambiare i propri ruoli e mettersi nei panni dell'altro non sarà semplice, ma questo permette non solo a loro di uscire dalla confort zone a cui sono ormai abituati ma anche a noi lettori di venire immersi in questo mondo di blocchi creativi, ispirazioni e processi di scrittura. Profondo, divertente e appassionante, ho dovuto leggerlo tutto d'un fiato. Inutile dire come sia irrimediabilmente innamorata di Gus. Come primo romanzo per adulti, Emily Henry ha largamente colpito nel segno.

HEAD OVER HEELS di Hannah Orenstein

Trama: After training her entire life to make the Olympic gymnastics team, a disastrous performance ended Avery Abrams' athletic career - for good.  

Seven years on, she's still lost and, reeling from a breakup with her football star boyfriend, returns to her Massachusetts hometown. In need of a job, Avery agrees to help new coach, Ryan Nicholson, train Hallie, a promising young gymnast with Olympic aspirations, despite her worries about the memories it will evoke. Back in the gym, she's surprised to find sparks flying with Ryan, and her long-buried love for her sport reemerging as she helps Hallie's talent shine. But when a shocking scandal breaks, it has shattering effects on the world of gymnastics, Avery and everyone around her. But Avery is not going to let history repeat itself - she's ready to fight for those she loves - and win.

Quello che spesso risulta un problema nei contemporary è la ripetitività di alcuni tropes. Per questo motivo Head over Heels è risultato originale nel creare una storia romantica e di crescita portando il lettore nell'ambito della ginnastica artistica di alto livello. E quale migliore esempio se non il circuito americano, visti soprattutto gli scandali degli ultimi anni? Il tema del bullismo, delle relazioni tossiche e della denigrazione della persona come metodo per "ottenere risultati" vengono toccate senza andare troppo nel profondo, ma lasciano quel lieve eco in tutto il libro per cui percepisci il problema e soprattutto le sue conseguenze nei diversi personaggi. Dubbi, paure, sfiducia.. non vediamo solamente una presa di posizione contro questi tremendi comportamenti ma anche il momento in cui spesso, chi parla, si ritrova non creduto. Mi sarebbe piaciuto forse un finale un pò più completo e con più confronto, ma non posso che consigliarvelo se siete amanti di questa disciplina!

KISS MY PUTT di Tara Sivec

Trama: After spending my entire pro golfing career being known as the quiet, controlled, no-nonsense golfer on the tour, there’s nothing more humiliating than throwing all of that down the drain—or into a water hazard—on national television. Needing some place to hide, to lick my wounds and figure out what I even want to do with my life once this blows over, I can only think of one place I need to be. Summersweet Island, where everyone treats me like one of their own, and they’ll all be happy to have me home again. Well, except maybe one person. It’s been two years since I last set foot on Summersweet Island or spoke to anyone there. But I’m sure Birdie Bennett, my best friend since I was 15 and the clubhouse manager of my favorite golf course, has had plenty of time to forgive me for that tiny little misunderstanding where I blocked her on social media and blocked her in my phone. Oh, and I guess I kind of, sort of accused her of being a stalker. It’s fine!Once my sexy, spunky, former best friend gets over the shock of seeing me again and stops trying to drive a 9-iron into my skull, I can finally let her know I’ve also kind of, sort of always been in love with her...

 
Dopo aver riso come non mai con Heidi's Guide to Four Letter Words quando ho saputo che in luglio usciva anche questo libro non ho potuto che correre a comprarlo. E devo dire che ho fatto bene. Kiss my Putt è un bel romance, non impegnativo, che potete leggere quando avete voglia di un libro leggero che possa farvi rilassare. Ho adorato i personaggi, la Sivec ha la capacità di immettere il lettore direttamente nella vicenda come se ne facesse parte e conoscesse tutti uno ad uno. Ti senti a casa. Senti la familiarità del posto e ridi, rimani in ansia e allo stesso tempo segui tutto come se fossi sul divano a  guardarti una puntata della tua telenovela preferita. State cercando una storia d'amore che vi lasci col fiato sospeso per un bel bel pò? Direi che avete trovato il libro giusto. Kiss my Putt è proprio l'esempio di come a volte un non detto, un fraintendimento e i mille mila dubbi che ci attanagliano sempre possono complicare situazioni semplicissime. La Sivec sta già lavorando sul secondo libro di questa serie, io ovviamente mi ci tufferò non appena sarà disponibile.

 

Ed ecco qui i miei 5 contemporary del 2020 che vi consigliamo di recuperare, anche se sono sempre alla ricerca di nuove letture da aggiungere a questo elenco. Spero che qualcuno di questi libri possa fare per voi o suscitare quantomeno quella sufficiente curiosità per dargli un'occhiata!
